New Zealand’s space sector reaches a new milestone with the successful launch of the MethaneSAT mission. This satellite, aimed at detecting methane emissions accurately, positions New Zealand at the forefront of global climate change efforts. The mission involves a collaboration between Rocket Lab, the University of Auckland, and NIWA, enhancing New Zealand’s space mission capabilities and agricultural methane emission research. Launched by SpaceX, MethaneSAT is expected to start delivering data by mid-2024, contributing significantly to the understanding and mitigation of methane emissions globally.
