A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by MetService for a large part of the North Island in New Zealand. Areas including Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Waitomo, Bay of Plenty, and Rotorua are under this watch from 1 pm to 8 pm. Localized tornadoes are possible, along with heavy rain and hail. Drivers are urged to exercise caution due to the risk of surface and flash flooding, poor visibility, and other hazards. Additionally, heavy rain and strong wind watches are in place for various regions in the country.
