The majority of Gore District Council in New Zealand is calling for the youngest ever mayor to resign due to controversies and discord since he won the position in October’s local elections. Ben Bell and council chief executive Stephen Parry stopped speaking to each other in March, and Bell has faced scrutiny over a number of issues since winning the mayoral chains. Bell rejected the request to resign and the council will now hold an extraordinary meeting to vote on a number of measures, including calling on Local Government Minister Kieran McAnulty to intervene.
