Kate Hall, an activist and educator, has shared tips on how to reduce food waste and make the most of food to deal with rising supermarket costs. Hall suggests keeping different types of produce grouped together, for example, apples and potatoes, to help the potatoes sprout, rather than storing the same type of produce together. Bananas should be stored separately from other produce as they give off gas which makes things ripen faster. Labelling a container with “eat me first” can also help to reduce waste. Food that is completely rotten should be composted, and people should not confuse the “best before” and “use by” dates on food products.
