Since late December, Auckland has reported seven confirmed cases of mpox, a viral infection primarily spread through skin-to-skin contact. The global outbreak of this virus, previously known as ‘monkeypox,’ began in May 2022 and was declared a global public health emergency by the World Health Organization. Despite the low risk, contact tracing has revealed links between most cases, indicating localized transmission.
