The police have introduced new electric vehicles for a trial period of six months. Five BMW i4 cars have been selected for the trial, which is part of a larger project to introduce 45 electric vehicles into the police fleet. The aim is to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 176.1 tonnes annually. The BMW i4 is chosen for its performance capabilities and ability to meet carbon reduction targets. It has a battery range of 590km per charge and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. The vehicles will be charged at police stations, taking around two hours, or in just 30 minutes with a “hyper charger.” The trial will take place in different regions across New Zealand.
