The New Zealand National Party will incentivise Kiwis to study nursing or midwifery by offering to pay their student loan repayments up to $4500 per year for five years, as part of a scheme to address the shortage of nurses and midwives in the country. In exchange, the nurses and midwives will enter into a bonding agreement with the government, which will require them to work in New Zealand for at least five years after they graduate. Additionally, the party will offer relocation grants worth up to $10,000 each to 1,000 qualified overseas nurses and midwives to encourage them to move to New Zealand.
