Ireland’s batters had their best day on their South Asia tour, scoring 319 for four on the first day against Sri Lanka in Galle. They began poorly, but Andy Balbirnie’s 95 and Paul Stirling’s 74 helped the team recover with a 115-run partnership. However, Stirling left the pitch with cramp, leaving Lorcan Tucker, who scored an unbeaten 78, to continue. Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya took two for 95, and Asitha Fernando was the only other bowler to take a wicket. Ireland is more comfortable playing white-ball cricket, so the team opted to play a limited-overs style of cricket to score as many runs as possible.
